Hi my name is Zerin and I have mental health issues.
The last 15+ years of my life, have been what I would call a battle, but also what I would call ‘life’ I have been very vocal with my mental health struggles.
So many of you reached out to me via my Instagram, emails, text, when I felt at my worst. You all made me feel as though I wasn’t the only one. SO, thank you for taking the time out of your day to check up on me. I hope I can help someone who may be struggling at times too. I plan on sharing with you all a few mental health posts over the coming months, but firstly I wanted to introduce you all to a company I came across via a press call out called B.OK ideas.
Kietah Martens-Shaw who has battled with depression and anxiety has created a box that I know your all going to love. It’s the only box on the market that’s concept is to continue reminding and encouraging people to live each season with a reason.
Let’s rewind to the start of April for a moment. I was feeling very emotional, stressed and just not myself. I also had just come off heavy medication, so my moods and hormone levels were all over the shop, I was thrilled when Kietah wanted to collaborate with me and this box was just what I needed.
Inside the seasonal box was a personalised letter with a sweet message just for me. From socks to a candle that smelt divine, complimented with a colouring book, my mood automatically felt lifted.
The day I found out my Dad’s cancer had shrunk, it was the greatest news I could ever hear.
As relieved as I was I couldn’t help but feel so overwhelmed, emotional, happy and sad all at once. As I had the house to myself it was time to open 1 of 6 B.OK envelopes I received.
Day 1: 11th April – Appreciate
First things first, it’s time to appreciate. The first envelope was so much fun. I received some sticky notes which I was to write down a happy moment and place it in the B.OK jar they sent with the kit. I think you can guess what it was, finding out my dad’s cancer has shrunk.
I placed all my B.OK goodies on my side table visible for myself to see and be reminded that I am not alone in my struggles. Filled out my B.OK wallet card and autumn booklet and changed my wallpaper on my phone to a funny pic of my partner in bed looking all toasty (yep only we will get that) I am about to jump into bed with my lavender bag which is proven to relax and calm. All of these goodies mentioned come inclusive in the B.OK box.
The next envelope was to be opened one week from now. If you think you might forget set an alarm or like I did, place the goodies in a place you will see them every day. Each little envelope contains a little task, some reminders, challenges, words of wisdom and surprises’ one being a WARHEAD. Who remembers them from the school canteen?
Over the last 63 days, life has had its struggle moments, I’ve gone to a few dark places but has also had its amazing days where I felt happiness and felt on top of the world. I guess that’s the thing with mental health you never know what mood you’re going to wake up in or who your going to be.
Having the B.OK box during autumn has been a breath of fresh air. I am only human, and I have failed at a few tasks from the box, like spending one hour lying under a tree watching the autumn leaves sway or fall, but I have written down a few sticky notes of moments that have made my heart filled with so much happiness.
